Afrofusion with Zahra Badua

  • Mimico Square 2441 Lake Shore Boulevard West Toronto, ON, M8V 1C5 Canada (map)

Explore African culture through dance while exploring your individuality and self-expression! This workshop will introduce us to the diversity within African street styles. Blending Traditional and Contemporary (street) West African styles, this dance style incorporates waist and core isolations, footwork and hip movements. Open to all ages and levels of experience.

Zahra Badua is a multifaceted artist whose work is rooted in her passion for dance, education, and the cultural richness of the African diaspora. Trained in Traditional West African dance (Ghana and Guinea) and various West and Central African street styles, she has performed, taught, and choreographed across Canada and the United States. She is the founder of ZahraMoves, an educational and performance-based brand dedicated to sharing African diasporic dance as both movement and knowledge. Beyond performance, Zahra works as a rehearsal director and stage manager on numerous artistic projects in Toronto. She also serves as the Production and Engagement Coordinator for dance Immersion, a Black-led organization supporting dancers and dances of the African diaspora. Her diverse experience allows her to engage the creative process across performance, education, and administrative spaces.
